Thursday, November 6th, 2014.

Dear Parents,

It is my pleasure to present this week's work. In Science, Grade 5's did an experiment to represent how the digestive system works. They also created the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems. They had to work collaboratively with a group of friends.

The Grade 6's have been representing the different parts of an invertebrate.

Tuesday, during Integration, we reflected on Remembrance Day:

1st block: The Grade 5 & 3 composed an acrostic poem.
2nd block: The Grade 5 & 2 did a painting.
3rd block: The Grade 6 & 2/3 did a painting
4th block: The Grade 6 & 3 composed an acrostic poem.

For our Remembrance Day Ceremony, the Grade 5 students are responsible to memorize the poem by John McCrae: 'In Flanders Fields'.
In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

Nous sommes morts
Nous qui songions la veille encor'.
À nos parents, à nos amis.
C'est nous qui reposons ici
Au champ d'honneur.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We are now wrapping up our Descriptive writing this week. We are starting our
recount unit next week. Your child is encouraged to start learning to conjugate the verbs: 'Passé composé' & 'Imparfait'. For the next two months, we will be
concentrating on these verbs. We will also be working on how to write good
'Questions'. Encourage your child to start questioning you on a subject, to ask
questions about a painting they are looking at.

Just a friendly reminder that we will have a Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11th, starting at 10:30. If you are available, please join us for this important ceremony.

Sincerely,

Mme Mathieu
