We are now entering our third week of Advent.
On Friday, the Grade 5 students were busy building a structure that could be solid enough to resist harsh wind, tornado, hearth quake and waves. This was an introduction to our unit:'Understanding structures and mechanisms forces acting on structures'. Your child has discovered that in order for a structure to stay strong, the best geometric form is a triangle and that your base must be a triangular-square. Also, the shape of a dome exerts less force then a vertical house. Please have a discussion with your child about the structure he/she has built. Here are some pictures of their structure:
The Grade 6's had the honor and pleasure to spend the afternoon with Mr. Tim Yearington. What a great afternoon.
At the beginning of his presentation, Mr. Yearington told us about the 'Turtle and the Otter'.
Mr. Yearington explained the meaning of the medicine wheel which explains that we are all entitled to learn and have balance in our life. Very powerful and meaningful. Each direction (East, South, West and North) and color (yellow, red, black and white) all have a meaning. Your child learned that we are always in charge of our (physical, emotional, mental & intellectual). That we all go through the cycle of life (child, youth, adult, elder/senior). If you wish to know more, please visit Mr. Yearington's website:

Have a wonderful day!
